Learn How to stay Motivated

Motivation is overrated, I believe that it comes and goes as it pleases. What you really need is commitment. Now, you might be really pumped about doing something which really makes you happy, like how I’m passionate about writing. But after a while, it goes away and you are standing in the middle of an ocean without any winds of motivation to sail you any further.

So here are the three methods, I follow and hopefully, you can also learn How to stay Motivated/Committed;

1. Two minutes rule.

This is the rule I follow, to adopt any good habit. When you have to do anything in your life, and you are delaying it. Just tell yourself, “I’m going to do this for two minutes.” and start.

Be it starting your painting or a blog or choreographing a song or playing football, just go out and start, no matter how tired you are. ( Because you know, you are making excuses.)The first two minutes are the tough ones, then if you are really passionate about it, it will be easy peasy lemon squeeze.

2. Set up deadlines and reach them.

You might be wondering, what has deadline got to do with me painting? or dancing or anything for that matter. Well, having deadline is the key to keep you moving. Humans love to be lazy and put things on their tomorrow’s self. (basically being Joey)

But if you keep yourself fixed to a deadline, maybe I wanna choreograph this entire song in a week or complete this painting this weekend, loose so much fat in this month by hitting the gym etc, having deadlines help.

OR fix up a time like Sheldon, for him “Saturday night is laundry night.” , Well he isn’t passionate about it. But having a fixed time mentally prepares you for doing that exact task. For this, use the help of your best friend (who would love to annoy you) to remind you daily, that you’re on the clock. I know that inspiration doesn’t work this way, it’s not bound to time. Some days you’re in the flow and some days it just doesn’t work out. But being creative is just like using a muscle, the more you work it out, the better it gets.

3. Put out your work

We all are afraid of this. But it’s good to put your work out, for people to see and appreciate and critique you. When you get appreciated, the dopamine release in your brain will provide you the necessary push to do something more. Whereas being critiqued in a positive way, helps in your growth as an individual. Now, this is a double-edged sword, some people out there are straight out mean. They may say pretty nasty things about your work. And this might discourage you.

But as Rocky Balboa once said, “The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place… and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.”

So don’t focus on the negative. Always remember to get back up.

See, you may follow your passion as a career or as having it as a hobby, the decision is up-to you. The important thing to remember is that You have to keep doing it. Why ? you ask because it makes you happy.

“Always remember your fundamental drive, Why you started it? always have the answer to this question, when you want to stop.”
